The CHAT Bag – $35.00

What is the Chat Bag?

The CHAT bag was inspired by Lori’s beautiful daughter Hannah who has Down Syndrome, Autism, and Apraxia. She currently uses an iPad to communicate with. Lori wanted to create a versatile bag that had adjustable straps, soft fabric with colorful designs, and have the screen exposed at all times for easy access. Now she can carry her bag anywhere and CHAT (Children Have A Tool) with us.

I was so excited to receive this bag as my son loves using his ipad.  Although my son doesn’t use it for communication I love that he has the ability to have it protected and has the ability to carry it with him.  This will help promote responsibility for his stuff.

Assisted technology like ipads and smartphones are becoming more widely used in schools and during therapy sessions.

Here is a link to my son using the ipad during his speech therapy in school. http://youtu.be/8EqzDotOjfk

The CHAT bag fits Apple Ipads 1, 2 and 3.

You may even special order if you don’t see a fabric that you like or if you have a different tablet size.

If you are looking to buy this for a loved one, but don’t know what fabric they would like Lori has gift certificates available.  Click here!

IEP/504 Student Success Guide – $45.00

This is a must have binder for parents if your child has an IEP or 504 in school.  I was so excited to review this product.

The Pro-Family Advocate IEP/504 Student Success Guide Includes:

    • Step by Step IEP Success Guide
    • Meeting and Contacts Notes Organizer
    • Check Lists for Meetings and Documentation
    • Letter Templates
    • IEP Related Document and Records Filing System
    • 504 Related Document and Records Filing System
    • Nationwide School District and Resources Directory
    • Understanding Test Scores Tutorial & Chart
    • Special Education Definitions and FAQ
    • Durable and Attractive Hardcover 3 Ring Binder

Just looking through the binder there is such helpful information especially if you are a parent just starting out in the special education arena.  I wished I would have gotten this 3 years ago.  I can not wait to use it for my son’s next annual IEP meeting in March.

My son is 6 years old and not only do I have folders of paperwork from IEP case conference notes to goals etc.  It would be so nice to keep it all in one place.  Plus the forms are so helpful to keep your thoughts, meetings, followups in one place.

The Special Education Definitions are invaluable, and ones that every parent needs to get themselves familiar with.

The Parent IEP/504 Guide is a collaborative effort of information to serve as a resource for parents. This Guide contains the most current and accurate information available regarding the special education system. It is the hope of Pro Family Advocate that this publication will educate parents and assists them in advocating for their children and in obtaining the supports and services that their children with disabilities need to succeed in school.

Mindy Schneider has over 18 years of personal experience in the field of Family Advocacy. Following her immense struggles with getting an appropriate education for her daughter Mindy took her deep rooted belief and passion that every student deserves a free and appropriate education where they can thrive and founded Pro Family Advocate.

I was so excited to receive the GloLite PartyLite Candle Jar from Shannon from PartyLite.  I think we all love candles.  How beautiful they can look and I love the beautiful scents that are available to us.

But I was really excited when I opened the box and found the Strawberry Rhubarb candle inside.  First the smell was amazing, but it was what I read in the catalog that really made it even more special.

A portion of every Strawberry Rhubarb GloLite by PartyLite Jar Candle purchase is donated to the American Cancer Society.  In the last 14 years, PartyLite Consultants, customers and employees have contributed nearly $13 million to the Society’s fight against cancer.

As a person whose mother was diagnosed with breast cancer years ago, I love the work this society has made on the fight against cancer.  They are also involved with Relay for Life and children’s cancer.  Pediatric cancer is another cause that is close to my heart.  So as you can see I am very excited to spread the word.

I also thought the description that Shannon gave when describing the product was also very nice and wanted to share it:

Special Moms share their glow every day with their special kids and their whole families. For those stolen moments, when Mom’s take some time to refresh their glow.
55-65 hour burn time

Candles are always a great gift for a loved one, your child’s therapists, school aides or teachers.

Give a gift that keeps giving!  Check out Shannon’s site for some really great holiday gift giving ideas here!  Please make sure to reference the SpecialMoms Special Needs Holiday Gift Guide.

Little Green Pouch– $14.99 (4 pack)

Is a reusable, dishwasher and freezer safe food pouch developed by two Northern California based moms who loved the benefits of disposable food pouches, but found challenges with their expense, trash and limited food choices.

Little Green Pouch is a reusable food pouch that gives parents the ability to offer their children homemade food from a pouch.

Little Green Pouch is fillable, reusable and squishable and is made for babies, big kids and grown ups.

Fillable
Our reusable food pouch has a zipper seal at the top that can be opened for filling with your favorite pureed or semi-solid foods, and then securely closed. For your homemade baby food (or store-bought applesauce), a spoon works well. For mom’s smoothies, a measuring cup with a pour spout does an A+ job.

Reusable
Our food pouches are made of durable, BPA-free and phthalate-free plastic. They are built to withstand those beatings that only young children can give and (after cleaning) take some more.

Dishwasher-able
Our reusable food pouches are dishwasher safe – just prop them upside down over the tongs on the top shelf. For best use, we recommend rinsing all the homemade spinach surprise out of the pouch and spout before running the cycle.

Freezer-able
If you like to cook homemade baby food in big batches, why not fill up a bunch of our reusable pouches and pop them in the freezer for later use? You can defrost them in warm water when you are ready to enjoy. Or, pack them as freezer packs in your lunch in the morning – they’ll be ready for squeezing by the afternoon.

Squishable
The size and suppleness of our reusable baby food pouch makes it great for use by those darling little hands.

It’s finally here the first annual 2012 SpecialMoms Special Needs Holiday Gift Giving Guide.

As a mother of a child with special needs, mom blogger and mom entrepreneur I wanted to create a unique guide that is specially targeted to children with special needs and their families who care for them.  The intent was to reach out to small business owners, Etsy shops, mom entrepreneurs and people who have a vested interest or passion for the special needs community.  As a mom entrepreneur I thought this was the perfect opportunity to help support other mom entrepreneurs.

What I found was their experience and interests brought real unique and helpful products that I wanted to share with you.  I hope that the products you find in this guide are practical, but will be helpful and provide a real value to you and your child with special needs.  But more importantly, bring real joy to your holiday season!

As joyous as the season is, gift giving can be stressful especially if you are purchasing for a child with special needs.  My intent with this guide was to make it a little less stressful with practical, reasonably priced items that can provide a real value to the child and their families.

Please share this guide with others and would love any feedback that you may have.  You can either click the picture above or click here to view the guide.

Happy Holidays!
