I dedicate this poem to my beautiful son who is truly a blessing sent to us from God.  We are thankful everyday that we were chosen to be the parents of  heaven’s very special child.

by Edna Massionilla

A meeting was held quite far from Earth

It was time again for another birth.

Said the Angels to the Lord above –

“This special child will need much love.

His progress may be very slow

Accomplishment he may not show.

And he’ll require extra care

From the folks he meets down there.

He may not run or laugh or play

His thoughts may seem quite far away

So many times he will be labeled different, helpless and disabled.

So, let’s be careful where he’s sent.

We want his life to be content.

Please, Lord, find the parents who

Will do a special job for you.

They will not realize right away

The leading role they are asked to play.

But with this child sent from above

Comes stronger faith, and richer love.

And soon they’ll know the privilege given

In caring for their gift from heaven.

Their precious charge, so meek and mild

                             Is heaven’s very special child.”

in 1974 i was given one of fathers gems. In the hospital lobby heavens special child poem hung on the wall. Author was unknown did you really write this poem?

    • No Janace, this was given to me by a nurse at the hospital when my son was only 3 months old. I never knew the name of the author but have since was able to do some research and have credited her. Her name was Edna Massionilla. I believe this poem was written back in 1981. But thank you for sharing.

I need to know who wrote this….. My brother is 30 years old and when. The poem was given to us 30+ years ago it was anonymous. This poem means more to me than most people can understand, my brother is everything to me. I just want to know who wrote this poem, because its says everything we all feel
