Let me share with you Marta’s story:

I started my Scentsy business in August 2010. My husband had been unemployed for almost 9 months when I saw Scentsy for the first time.  I thought to myself “Could this really work? Why wouldn’t it? We love candles and most people we know do too!”

I started scheduling parties and soon the holiday season was upon us. Wow! Who knew selling wax and warmers would be so much fun AND easy!! I was working 2-3 nights a week and it was on MY schedule, not someone else’s. Another upside was my commission check…$500+ a month! Winter of 2010, I contributed enough income to help support our struggling family with my Scentsy business.

Fast forward to April 2012, my Scentsy income averages close to $800+ a month! During the holiday season, my paychecks are $1200 a month, working 1-2 hours a day.  Along with that I also earned an all-expense paid vacation for two to the Hard Rock Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, now how can you beat that!

I love being my own boss! My children are my life and Scentsy has allowed me to be there when they need me.

Calling all MOMS! Where Do You Shop For Your Boys?

Ok Moms I am on a mission would you like to join me?  As you can see I have a boys graphic tshirt from Carters pictured to the left.  Now I am only speaking for myself but I am personally tired of going shopping for my son who will be 6 yrs old in a week and when I want to just buy him some tshirts these are the kinds of tshirts that are available.


I mean everywhere you go, no matter what store you go to Gap, Macy’s, Target, JcPenneys wherever this is all you see for boys for the summer.  I know that boys are rough with their clothes and yes they are boys, but there has to be better options out there.  Girls seem to have such a wide range of clothes to choose from.  Even my husband had mentioned one time we were in the Disney Store at the mall, that “there seems to be more to choose from for the girls”.  Why is that? 


I know I probably spend way too much time thinking about this but I like for my son to look nice.   I want him to be comfortable but be presentable.  I’m not in to dressing him in skull heads (pictured to the right) and stuff like that, he doesn’t even know what that is nor do I want him to.  I fully believe that if you take the time to teach your child to look nice and to take care of their stuff at a young age, they will continue that as they grow up.


I found this shirt online at Old Navy and I like it.  They have a white one with a tiger face on the back.  I think it’s nice it looks comfortable and for $10 it’s really a steal.  You can dress this up or down.  It’s cute and different.









Now I know that the “skater look” is all about the hoodies and skulls (which I just mentioned above that I don’t like), but I did come across a nice tshirt from Shaun White (who as we all know and love the cute, long red-hair snowboarder from the Olympics).  He has a clothing line out with Target.  Which I do like to shop at Target, so I was surprised I have never seen his clothes before.  But this shirt is nice.  You can definitely layer this or just wear it alone.  But the great thing is the price.  Online this shirt is available at Target for $8.99.  So for a more casual look this might be a nice way to go.

The other problem I have with my son is that he is fairly on the tall, lean side so I need to look for shorts and pants that have the adjustable waist.  They are becoming more easier to find but can be a little more expensive.








But I have to say my favorite look for my son is the madras shorts or plaid shorts. I absolutely love this look from CDW Kids.  But they are fairly expensive, so that’s my point.  How do you dress your son in a reasonably priced way but not give up quality and look?

Becoming A First-Time Mom and Things To Consider Regarding Your Job

Becoming a first-time mom when you have a successful career can be a big adjustment. You have worked so hard to get where you are at on the ladder, and now life has a different “path” for you – motherhood. Whether this was a planned event or not, there are certain things that need to be arranged in order to make accommodations for your new arrival.


Job Considerations

Whether you are a high-level executive or a shift worker there are certain discussions that need to take place with your employer and human resource department:


Maternity leave – know what your company will offer under the Family and Medical Leave Act
Medical Benefits – will your medical benefits continue while on maternity leave or if you even have company benefits? Or will you need to start making adjustments to pay for your own health insurance?


Need More Maternity Time – what will you do if you need more time, will the company extend your leave and for how long?


Be honest – with your employer so if you decide you want to come back you have a good departing relationship and there should be no issues before you leave. Maybe draw a “good faith” contract with your employer stating upon your return, they agree to offer you your same job/salary when you return. Some companies may need to fill your job in the interim (it’s job security).


Contractual Obligations – know what contractual obligations you are under if you signed a contract at the beginning of employment. Some companies could seek repayment of benefits if you do not return.


Flex Time – knowing that financially and just for your own sanity you still may want to return to work, but maybe part-time or on a mutually agreed upon basis. I would talk to your employer before leaving and again it’s always nice to have something it writing to fall back on if needed. Clearly layout your plan and what it will take on both ends to get the work done. For example: telecommuting office setup at home, internet coverage, phone costs, etc. How many hours you will work and identify those hours. You need to make sure with a new baby that you are not being interrupted during naptime or feeding times. Maybe look to have a Nanny or family member helping you during the “work times” so it will show your commitment to the company and your job.


In the meantime up until your maternity take care of yourself and enjoy being a first-time mom!

Is The “Little Mermaid” Play An Age Appropriate Field Trip For Kingergartners?


Today I went with my son on his first Kindergarten field trip, and it was to see the high school performance of “Little Mermaid.”  I have to say I was a little disappointed that this was their field trip.  I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was very taken back.  I didn’t feel it was an age appropriate field trip for 5 and 6 year olds, probably not for 7 and 8 years as well.


I looked around about midway through the show and there were kids crying or scared, because it was at times scary, dark and it was somewhat violent. The word “stupid” was used by Ursula which really bothered me since I have a child with Down Syndrome.  We try to teach our kids about words that are hurtful and here are high school kids using it in a play.


Yes I know it’s a play and it wasn’t real but since it was a field trip parents, were not there to talk to their kids or just make sure they were okay.  I can’t say their was a really great message that it was giving either to these impressionable minds.


Now don’t get me wrong I love Disney, in fact we are taking our family there for springbreak.  However, I think there are better productions that Disney has created that are simple, fun and have some educational meaning to them.


I brought this up to our PTO tonight and a parent asked me well do you have any better suggestions, and I said “yes I know there was no cost to the parents but why don’t we take them to the Humane Society and they can clean the animals, walk them and feed them, teaching them about responsibility or the youth orchestra can come to the school and perform or the choir can sing.  There are definitely better options out there than this.”  I said that” if this was the only option then I would rather they not go, or look at the entire audience of children attending these kinds of events, because there were some older children and make a better judgement if it’s appropriate for all.”


We have to learn how to protect our children or we can’t complain about the behaviors they demonstrate if this is what they see and hear.  I guess I just expected better judgement on the part of the school.
